Hair Tie

Hair Tie

A day of gardening, mowing, watering, harvesting, cleaning, podcasting, knitting and watching The Duchess of Duke Street, at 10 pm I decided to finish up this hair tie that I had cut out the pattern a few days before. It only took a few minutes to complete. I love it!

SP 12 Question of the Week - # 7

What is(are) your favorite place(s) to knit? It was my wing chair, but that left a year ago. At the moment, my sofa, so I can watch a little Mystery on PBS. The view I have it straight out the garden path and the island of woods we left between the garden and one of the fields. Mind you, we only have five acres, but it's plenty of space to be able to look out from my cabin in the woods!

What supplies (besides yarn & needles) make the setting perfect for knitting? A good cup of coffee or tea, pending the time of day. My little bag of supplies, with my scissors, counter, stitch holders, stitch markers and such. It's a Burts Bee clear bag....I've used this one for several years. Will be sad if it ever decides to give up on me.

Secret Pal 12 - Week #6 Questions #6

Questions #6

What is your favorite type of project to take along on holiday/vacation?

A vest! (socks, scarf, sweater, another sweater, extra needles, a new knitting magazine, too much)

Making due with what's on hand...

It's been an interesting dinner week....dig in the freezer and create a meal with what is on hand. Four work nights in a row I have pulled it off.

This evening, while watering the hanging plants in the garden, I gathered my handful of berries, a mix of strawberries and raspberries to bring in to be washed and put into the freezer container that is collecting and holding these goodies for jam.

At the end of June I purchased a half flat of strawberries, for a low, low price of $6. Though it was reasonable in price, I decided I would make due this summer with what I can grow and harvest from our place.

Blueberries are soon to ripen. Sour cherries have been picked and seeded, Blackberries should be arriving mid to late August, pending our weather.

The same with go for my yarn this summer. I have purchased yarn with projects in mind, a sweater, a vest, which just needs to be done.

As for the knitting in my life, I've been faithful to my Green Day vest. I haven't strayed to another knitting project since starting it. I hope to have it done by the end of this weekend.

SP 12 Question of the week - #5

For Week 5, our SP12 hostesses want to know:

1) Where is your favorite place to go for vacation/holiday? Tough one, as I haven't been on a real holiday since a weekend to Victoria in June 2000 (two day honeymoon). Over the years I have spent a week or two in Edmonton, Alberta and loved it. Ok...so I love Canada...at one point, I wanted to move there. Have yet to see the east coast of Canada...someday.

2) Where is one place you’d like to go? Scotland! Enough said!

Toasted Almonds - A Hybrid

What you see is yarn that was assigned to be Salt Peanuts by Veronik Avery. I have knit up many of Veronik Avery's patterns. She is at the top of my list of favorite knitwear designers. Then why am I showing you Toasted Almonds?

Story is I knit the same sleeve twice in one week. My gauge was on for stitch count, my rows were off. Alot. I have rarely had that happen, where the rows are totally off with specific increases and such.

Hence, the beginning of Toasted Almonds.

I had ripped the first sleeve, did the second and let that one sit. I took a creative license moment, using a top down method, doing the math on a 3 sts gauge. I loved the rib stitch in Salt Peanuts, so I incorporated that into the rib areas of the sleeves and body. I did start the rib stitch higher up in the body, to break up all that boring stockinette stitch.
There are no buttons, I like it as a throw on and go caridgan. It will be great with a pair of jeans and a long sleeved t-shirt.

SP 12 - Question of the Week (#4)

1) What yarn (that you don’t have/haven’t used) would make your stash “complete”?

O-Wool. It's lovely, from what I have gotten to touch when knitting with Michelle.

2) What yarn do you never want to be without?

Worsted Weight Wool. Any mfg.

Knitting wool on a hot day

This past weekend, we took the GrisRoy up to the mountains, where we sat parked at our friend's property, next to Little Creek, and all of our neighbors in their Fifth Wheels, parked with us in the field.

It was hot. I took alot of wool with me. It was hot. I sat in the shade, moved my chair with the sun and drank lots of water. It was hot. Managed to get 3/4 of a hybrid cardigan done while camping from Friday - Sunday. It was hot.

The group Michelle and I run over at Ravelry, Sleeves Off and Button On has a KAL that started yesterday. She is running the cardigan KAL, using the Mr. Greenjeans pattern and I have the vest KAL side of things, with Green Day. Please join us is you care to.

I have to finish my hybrid sweater, appropriately named Toasted Almonds, before I get my vest AND cardigan going. I took the wool with me camping for swatching. It never happened.

Have I mentioned how hot it was?
